Margaret Ida Havens was born and raised in Port Washington, New York, a suburb of The Big Apple. The eldest of four children, she attended the University of Utah, studying music, math, and radio and television production before serving an 18 month mission to Uruguay for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She discovered nursing during summer hospital work while at college and finally completed her RN education at Long Beach City College in 1981, giving birth to the third of her six sons during the program. She has worked in Labor and Delivery, Post-partum, and Newborn Intermediate Care and Regular Nursery units most of her nursing career.
Throughout her years in nursing and child-rearing, Margaret Ida has been active in educational support activities. She completed a degree in Human Services focused on counseling, became a Certified Child-Birth Educator, then pursued a Masters degree in Education - focusing on innovative approaches to meeting adult learning needs and developing the ideas that have become the Virtual Pregnancy Course.
When asked to describe herself, she talks about the great diversity interests in which she has been involved throughout her busy life. Here are her notes. See what you can find that resonates with you!
